{"id":8160,"date":"2018-08-10T11:27:52","date_gmt":"2018-08-10T09:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mojacar.es\/en\/?p=8160"},"modified":"2018-08-10T11:45:55","modified_gmt":"2018-08-10T09:45:55","slug":"sopalmo-festivities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devmojacar.talleragencia.com\/en\/sopalmo-festivities\/","title":{"rendered":"Cristo Rey fiesta at Moj\u00e1car\u00b4s hamlet, Sopalmo."},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Sopalmo, a part of the municipality of Moj\u00e1car, is eagerly preparing for its Cristo Rey Patron Saint Fiesta this weekend, from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th August.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\tReviving old traditions, whilst also gathering more interest from the younger generations, it\u00b4s a time when Sopalmo dresses up and everyone, including residents and visitors, gets together to have a great time.<br \/>\nEverything gets going on Friday at 8 p.m. with the married couples\u2019 ribbon races, a tradition dating back to medieval times, when more than 20 horseback riders battle to win the decorated ribbons that their partners have placed in rings. Each victor is always greeted with applause by spectators on both sides of the street, as the band plays a tune in their honour. Then, at 10 p.m. Sopalmo\u00b4s outdoor party takes over, with dancing and entertainment until dawn.<br \/>\n\tAt midnight on Saturday, the Fiesta speech will be made by Juan Pablo Mu\u00f1oz, followed by the election of the Fiesta Queen and the Dames of Honour.  Isabel Montoya Garc\u00eda, who was crowned Queen in 2017, along with her Dames, Ana Artero, Andrea Garc\u00eda and Roc\u00edo Garc\u00eda, will then hand their duties over to the newly crowned representatives for 2018.<br \/>\n\tHoly Mass will be held on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the town\u2019s chapel, followed by the children`s ribbon races and, outdoor musical entertainment by Rafael Rueda at 8 p.m.<br \/>\n\tJos\u00e9 Antonio Fern\u00e1ndez, Sopalmo\u00b4s district Mayor, is delighted with the programme that has been put together for 2018 and has extended an open invitation to all Moj\u00e1car\u2019s residents and visitors to come along and enjoy their special event.
