{"id":6438,"date":"2017-08-25T17:18:05","date_gmt":"2017-08-25T15:18:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mojacar.es\/?p=6438"},"modified":"2017-08-25T17:18:05","modified_gmt":"2017-08-25T15:18:05","slug":"mojacar-clay-pigeon-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devmojacar.talleragencia.com\/en\/mojacar-clay-pigeon-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Moj\u00e1car, pioneer of the clay pigeon shooting competition."},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><strong><u>As part of the lead up to Moj\u00e1car\u2019s San Agust\u00edn Fiesta, some of the best shots in the area and province made sure they turned up at the local clay pigeon shooting tournament to test their skills. <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Organized by the Sports Department of Moj\u00e1car Council, this year\u2019s event attracted 62 participants, including 1 female (who was in the top 18 and the tiebreaker), 2 juniors and several veterans. It was a very tightly fought competition with Granada entrants Francisco Alberto Garc\u00eda Fern\u00e1ndez and Francisco Martinez Mu\u00f1oz and Juna L\u00f3pez Asensio from Pulp\u00ed , sharing the first position and trophies.<br \/>\nThe participants, who came from far and wide, raised the standard which resulted in none of the local participants (Rosendo Alarc\u00f3n, Jos\u00e9 Montoya, Dionisio Campoy, Silvus y Antonio Invern\u00f3n) being placed, although they all put a  good performance, with Antonio Alarc\u00f3n reaching a very good tiebreaker position.<br \/>\nMoj\u00e1car\u2019s tradition of holding shooting competitions goes way back in time and they were actually the first and only ones that took place in the Almer\u00eda province, even before the 1950\u2019s.  Heralding the start of Fiesta time, local hunting fans (who were at that time biggest group of shotgun owners) always looked forward to these events, which took place way out of town  with rudimentary manual machines to throw the targets, which were then counted for the highest number of hits.<br \/>\n\tThis unique custom was close to disappearing for ever from the province until Rosendo Alarc\u00f3n, the son of the famous past Mayor Jacinto and an avid participant in the sport, was the driving force in rescuing this tradition, over 7 years ago.
